The swordsmith, Soshu Sumi Masahisa (相州住正久), was active during the late Muromachi period to the early Edo period, around the late 16th to early 17th century.

Certified by NBTHK as 特別貴重刀剣 Tokubetsu Kichou Touken, Special Valuable Sword, it was the second highest rank in the old NBTHK standard. Roughly equivelent to the 重要刀剣 Juyo Touken in the current standard.
