Old Mei: Bizen Osafune ju Morihisa, inscribed by Suriage
工藤将士耑応大正二年護国(花押)
Kudō Shōji duly responded in Taishō 2 (1913), for the protection of the nation. (kaō)
The sword was originally made by Morihisa of Osafune in Bizen Province, a well-known swordsmithing area. Morihisa of Bizen Osafune was active during the Nanbokuchō period (the Northern and Southern Courts period, 1336–1392) The blade was later shortened and re-inscribed. In 1913, Kudō Shōji respectfully added a new inscription, indicating the blade's dedication to the protection of the nation. The presence of a kaō (a stylized signature or seal) adds authenticity to his work.
